The Reverend Vincent Powell Harris
Rector
The Reverend Vincent Powell Harris was born in Houston, Texas and reared in Jacksonville, Florida. A fourth generation Episcopalian, Fr. Harris is the son of an Episcopal priest and a High School English teacher.
Fr. Harris received his B.A. in History in 1975 from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1979 he earned a Master in Divinity degree from the Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. He was ordained deacon on June 5, 1979 and priest on December 18, 1979.
He has served churches in Gainesville, Florida, Tallahassee, Florida and was a college chaplain at the Atlanta University Center and Howard University before accepting the call as rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church, Washington, DC in 1991.
He is married to Joyce Brown Harris and they have three grown children, Michael, Angela and Leslie. In November 2001, they became grandparents to Toussaint Vincent.
Fr. Harris has many hobbies and passions outside his roles as preacher, teacher, and disciple. His hobbies include music, computers, reading and sports.
